Detritus: Woodland Installation

The Detritus installation was personal project completed last summer in Northern Michigan on the Soul Springs permaculture farm. I was given free reign on the property to create whatever I’d like. The project became an exercise in design, reuse and sustainable farming.
Being that I wanted to complete this project by myself, both budget and speed of construction were very important to me. I came up with a simple method of lashing the logs to the trees with biodegradeable jute twine. By creating raised log walls between trees, the formation of defined spaces occurs in what was formerly only a perceived space.
Apart from being just a exercise in design, the log walls will become the home to a variety of hardy kiwi which the farm will be planting.
